Dato’ Ng Wan Peng

Dato’ Ng Wan Peng is the COO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). MDEC is a government-owned agency to pioneer the transformation of Malaysia’s digital economy, responsible for the development, coordination, and promotion of Malaysia’s digital economy, information and communications technology (ICT) industry, and the extensive use of ICT in Malaysia.

Dato’ Ng Wan Peng is no stranger to anyone involved in the ICT business in Malaysia. After graduating from Universiti Sains Malaysia in the nineties, she joined SAPURA as a systems engineer where she moved up the ranks as project manager, program manager before leaving to join MDEC (previously known as Multimedia Development Corporation) in 1999. Since then she has been a core and pioneer member of MDEC initiatives. Today, as the COO, she is responsible for strategic execution of MDEC’s initiatives to support digital economy, including: 1. Attracting investors, globalising local tech champions; 2. Catalysing industry-driven digital ecosystem; 3. Building critical enablers of the digital economy, and 4. Driving inclusive adoption of technology.

 

She has more than 25 years’ Industry experience in managing large-scale projects, in the areas of Strategic IT Planning, Project Management, Systems Integration, and Methodologies Development.  Dato’ Ng has been consulted for both private and public sector organizations in IT policy and project implementation across government, defense and education sectors in Malaysia and abroad.

 

In 2015, Dato’ Ng Wan Peng was conferred Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (D.S.P.N) by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang in recognition of her leadership, dedication and positive contributions to drive and expand digital economy’s footprint in Malaysia and globally.

Jordy brings more than 13 years of experience in the information technology and communication industry and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications. He works with clients from SMBs, Enterprises and the Public Sectors to create business value through cloud-based innovation.  

​Mr. Ragunathan Gopalakrishnan

  • Chief Technology Officer, Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad (PSMB)

 

Mr. Ragunathan Gopalakrishnan is the Chief Technology Officer for the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF). Prior to his appointment with the HRDF, he was the Head of Platform Innovation for Maxis Mobile Services Sdn Bhd. He is a highly accomplished results oriented senior executive with over 20 years of broad exposure in development, technical and operations leadership experience. Last 10 years filled with track records of delivering complex, high risk, high value projects through development, program management and product management.

Combined with an entrepreneurial instinct, in depth technical skills and a strong reputation for developing and motivating cross functional teams at all level. Experience at being the voice of business, capturing the right message for the largest impact. Build rapport with senior leadership team, vendors, peers and technical specialists. Ms. Juliana Jan

  • Chief Investment Officer - Deq800, Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd.

 

Juliana Jan joined Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd in 2004 and is currently the Chief Investment Officer, responsible in managing the company’s latest investment portfolio expansion called Direct Equity 800 (DEQ800) and Co-investment initiative and temporarily holds the position as the Acting CEO of Cradle Seed Ventures (CSV), Cradle’s venture capital arm.

Juliana has an extensive and diverse experience in market research and grant as well as venture capital funding. She has a Bachelors of Science degree in Economics from the Missouri University Science and Technology – Rolla.

 

Juliana started as an analyst under the developmental grant (CIP50) team and in early 2009, she headed the developmental grant (CIP Catalyst) evaluation team. Then in 2010, she moved to head the commercialisation grant (CIP500) evaluation team and eventually the entire CIP500 unit. With the evolution of Cradle and the initiation of its equity play, she moved to head the equity team.

 

Juliana continues to be committed in building and developing strong growth potential start-ups in the country specifically in early stage through her work in Cradle. She played a major role as part of the working committee in the setting up of the various products in Cradle and the development of processes, such as the CIP Catalyst (developmental funding), CIP500 (seed funding) as well as the Co-investment and DEQ800 initiatives in 2014 and 2016 respectively.

 

With her career experience, Juliana understands the needs of the market and the issues in the funding ecosystem from prototype development in the pre-seed stage, the seed stage, up to the later stage of fund raising.

Juliana is very passionate about helping entrepreneurs and start-ups. The knowledge and know-how she gained prior to joining Cradle and also at Cradle has been invaluable in enabling her to assist Cradle recipients by advising them and sharing information about the market and funding criteria.

Ts. Lee Hwee Hsiung 

  • Head of Department, Cybersecurity Malaysia (CSM)

Ts. Lee Hwee Hsiung has more than 25 years of experience in various disciplines including cyber security, risk management, training, semiconductor, technopreneurship, and strategic development.  Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and microelectronics from the University College of Tunku Abdul Rahman, Kuala Lumpur and Campbell University, North Carolina USA. He obtained a master’s in business administration from the Malaysia Multimedia University in the year 2008.  He is an Associate Fellow of the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and a Professional Technologist (Ts.) under the Cyber Security Sector of Malaysia Board of Technologist (MBOT).  He was awarded as Honoree for Asia-Pacific Information Security Leadership Achievements (ISLA) in the category of Managerial Professional for Information Security Project(s) on July 26 2012 in Tokyo, Japan and the recipient of “One of the Most Outstanding Chief Security Officers (CSO) in the ASEAN region 2012” by the CSO ASEAN Awards 2012 organized by IDG.  

 

He initiated the Global Accredited Cybersecurity Education (ACE) Certification to elevate the capability of cyber security workforce and to provide continual professional development. Currently, the Certification scheme is being deployed in Malaysia and member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). He is a regular trainer, speaker and writer for newspapers, magazines and publications in the area related to cyber security. He is also a guest lecturer for universities, colleges and private organizations. 

Dr. Ng Sing Kwei

Dr. Ng is well experienced in the translation of R&D investment into revenues. He is analytical, creative and is well experienced in technology evaluation, market due diligence and facilitating commercialisation activities. Currently, he is the Head of Technology Commercialisation at PlaTCOM Ventures Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM). He manages a national funding programme for SMEs, overseeing a portfolio of RM 100 Million commercialisation fund under PlaTCOM. He also leads the consultancy and capacity building division. His roles include identify and evaluate new technologies, conduct technical & market due diligence, identify investment risks, perform business planning analysis and provide end to end facilitation for commercialisation activities.

 

Dr. Ng is a Registered Technology Transfer Professional (RTTP). He is well trained in grasping technology and business concepts quickly and helps translate them into practical commercial solutions that are commercially viable. Under his current capacity, he focuses on providing essential services nationwide to commercialise technologies developed by local universities, other federal agencies as well as private entities. He promotes, facilitates and manages technology transfer and commercialisation activities in a number of public institutions and private companies under his portfolio.

 

Before returning to Malaysia, Dr. Ng worked as a Knowledge Transfer Associate under the Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) in the UK. Dr. Ng holds a PhD in Microwave Instrumentation from Manchester Metropolitan University (United Kingdom) and a Bachelor of Electronic & Telecommunication Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).

Pn. Farah Othman

Farah has been a leader in People Development for over two decades, focusing on driving business results through the unique intersection of strategy, talent and culture. With a distinct forte in leadership, her areas of expertise include organisational innovation, culture transformation, driving organisational business goals as well as leading cross-functional business operations and optimisation. In her current role as the Vice President of People and Capability Development, she liaises with internal and external stakeholders while managing staff deployments to  maximize productivity, efficiency and impact. She is spearheading MaGIC Academy, the teamresponsible to develop capacity building programmes for Malaysian startups.

Farah champions the Way of Work (WoW) at MaGIC, a cultural transformation initiative which serves as the guiding principle for MaGIC to promote a highly innovative, engaging, healthy and effective work culture. In addition, she is also a certified Coach and Mentor by the International Coach Federation (ICF), and has initiated a coaching and mentoring culture in MaGIC to elevate staff performance.

Steven strived a new milestone in 2014 when he committed his in-depth skillsets as lecturer of Alibaba.com. Dr. Sivapalan Vivekarajah Ph.D

Dr. Sivapalan is a prominent Entrepreneur and active Angel Investor who has successful investments in technology companies in the Edtech, Proptech, Travel, Automotive, Medical device and Internet industry over the last 35 years.  A major achievement is that he is the first Malaysian to achieve a Ph.D in Venture Capital from University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

He is the Co-Founder for both “ScaleUp Malaysia” Accelerator and Proficeo Consultants. The latter company has accomplished two major projects known as “Coach & Grow Program” (CGP) for Cradle Fund and “eUsahawan Level Up Program” for micro Entrepreneurs initiated by MDEC.  More than 2,000 entrepreneurs have been coached and mentored over the last 12 years in Malaysia. 

He held various pivotal roles including as President of Malaysian Business Angels Network (MBAN), Malaysian Venture Capital & Private Equity Association (MVCA), and Technopreneurs Association of Malaysia (TeAM). Dr. Sivapalan’s  stature grew in year 2019 when he was appointed to chair the Ministerial Task Force (TF) on Technopreneur Funding under Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) and appointed to the Malaysian Venture Capital and Private Equity Development Council (MVCDC) by the Minister of Finance, Malaysia. 

He is a popular speaker, panelist, moderator and writer in the technology space. 

Mr. Azman Hood

Azman Hood began his career as a Research Executive with the Corporate Planning unit of Malaysia Building Society Berhad. Having just graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Accounting) from Acadia University in Canada, it was a role that allowed him to combine his love for learning new things with his keen eye for financial detail. Followed by a short stint with Tenaga Risk Management Services Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of TNB, Azman took the leap into entrepreneurship as a freelance writer, focusing on tertiary education content and business plans. In addition to providing audio and written content for annual reports, career guides and e-learning software applications, he found a niche in conducting market research and financial projections for business plans.

From there, he immersed himself in high technology startups as business development manager for a small but innovative group, and was in charge of writing proposals for fund raising from the Government, banks, institutional and individual investors. This resulted in a deep working knowledge of the funding mechanisms and fiscal incentives provided by the Government in support of innovation funding.

With this knowledge, Azman joined the Government-linked agencies such as Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation, Malaysia Debt Ventures and currently he is the Vice President of Investment – DEQ800 at Cradle Fund Sdn Bhd, in a technology and business due diligence and investment management capacity. He finds fulfilment in working with these funding institutions as he is able to critically analyse the business potential of new emerging technologies, which contribute directly towards creating an innovative, high-income Malaysian economy by the year 2020.

 

An avid yet unprolific angler, he quotes Calvin’s Dad in saying “The key to enjoying your Job, is to have a Hobby that is much worse.”

Daren Tan is a full-stack generalist and data scientist. Avidly passionate on combining data, design and development onto solving real life problems. Prior to his current role, he worked as a freelance developer/consultant for multiple startups around Asia for 3 years bringing ideas to life.

A serial hackathon winner with a cumulative total of 6 podium finishes and 4 Top 10 finishes. Also winner of the Merit Prize at the 17th MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards 2016. Co-founded Hackathon Kaki, the largest online hackathon community in Asia and Developer Kaki, the most active developer community in Malaysia.

He is currently working as Assistant Manager, Tech & Innovation, MaGIC and also a Senior Full Stack Developer working on tools and technologies to empower startup ecosystem in Malaysia."

Mr. Derrick Yu is well-known for his 20 years of successful experiences in international eCommerce business trade which led to his current held position as CEO of Nanjing Hanhi Consulting & Management Co., Ltd. and Vice President of Jiangsu ZF Enterprises Co., Ltd. 


Understanding the importance of talent cultivation in cross-border e-commerce field, he is actively involved in nurturing new batch of talents from education institutes. On this account for his contribution, he was appointed as an expert member of the Alibaba Cross-border E-Commerce Talents Committee, a distinguished expert of the Chinese International E-commerce Institute, an enterprise expert of the Chinese Higher Education Institute, a visiting professor role for dozens of well-known universities in China, Mentor of innovation and entrepreneurship and the list continues. In 2018, he was awarded with an Outstanding Contributions Award of Chinese E-Commerce Association.


Mr. Derrick Yu continues his passion and eventually collaborate with Alibaba Group to establish Alibaba digital trade school in 2019. In fact, he serves as the Dean of Alibaba digital trade school of Sanjiang University in Nanjing and published 11 books related to cross-border e-commerce.

Assoc. Prof. Jocelyn Zhou

Associate Professor Zhou is a pioneering figure in the field of competency development for university students in e-commerce at School of Economics and Management, Nanjing University of Technology. She is responsible for more than ten national and provincial projects that successfully secured vertical research funds with almost 2 million. In 2014, she formed E-Commerce Entrepreneurship Education training program in National University Science and Technology Park. Under her guidance and her team, 10 startups have now selling more than 50 million in revenue through three of their organized e-commerce competitions. As of result, she is widely recognized in government sector and industry players, aside having written a number of papers and textbook publications (including Alibaba's first cross-border e-commerce textbook).

Assoc. Prof. Zhou gained recognition from Ministry of Commerce as eCommerce expert of China which is responsible for the development of 16 e-commerce demonstration counties. She is a frequent invited speaker in International Electronic Commerce Center Training College and her lectures (more than 100 sessions) were made across major counties in China. Besides, as the county chief expert of Taobao University, she discuss with respective county chief and county secretary about the top-level design and development strategy on their local e-commerce development. Moreover, she also provided e-commerce consultancy services to a number of large enterprises.

Assoc. Prof. Lu Song Yan

Assoc. Prof. Lu Song Yan is the current Head of International eCommerce Department at Jiangsu Open University, China and co-foundered of China Universities League for Cross Boarder E- Commerce. He started off his academic careers as a lecturer at the Department of English in Jiangsu Radio & TV University since 1986 before being appointed as the Head of Business English Department in Jiangsu Open University from 1996. 

Assoc. Prof. Lu holds various decisive positions as Secretary-General in Jiangsu Universities Association for Foreign Languages Teaching & Researching along with the role of Vice-Chairman in Jiangsu Vocational Universities Association on Practical English Studies. Owing to his accomplished background, he was invited to judge National Vocational Students Skills Competition.  

Furthermore, Assoc. Prof. Lu is also a member for Advisory Committee of Foreign Language Teaching in Vocational Education under Ministry of Education, PR China and Digital Courses Association governed by China Association of Higher Education. He graduated from Nanjing Normal University and had been a visiting scholar in York University (Canada), British Open University (UK) as well as Long Island University (USA).
